European Commission Regulation (EC) No.123/2005 of January 26, 2005, amending Regulation (EC) No. 466/2001, as regards ochratoxin A, has recently been published in the Official Journal of the European Union. The regulation establishes maximum limits for ochratoxin A in dried vine fruits,wine, grape juice, and coffee products.The limits are as follows: 10.0 µg/kg for dried vine fruit (currants, raisins and sultanas); 2.0 µg/kg for wine (red,white, and rosé) and other wine- and/or grape must–based beverages, grape juice, grape juice ingredients in other beverages (including grape nectar and concentrated grape juice as reconstituted), grape must and concentrated grape must as reconstituted (intended for direct human consumption); 5.0 µg/kg for roasted coffee beans and ground roasted coffee with the exception of soluble coffee; and 10.0 µg/kg for soluble coffee (instant coffee). The regulation applies from April 1, 2005.

In relation to this, the Commission Directive 2005/5/EC of January 26, 2005, amending Directive 2002/26/EC laying down the methods for sampling and analysis for ochratoxin A in certain foodstuffs,has also been published in the Official Journal of the European Union.
