ISPA-CNR Hosts 2006 Myco-Globe International Conference

This special edition of the Mycotoxicology Newsletter is published in conjunction with the 2006 MYCO-GLOBE International Conference. The September 26–30 event will take place in the town of Monopoli, approximately 40 km outside the original venue of Bari, Italy. Bari’s Institute of Sciences of Food Production (ISPA-CNR) organized this year’s meeting in support of the MYCO-GLOBE project’s efforts to protect the quality and safety of the world’s food supply by promoting, integrating, and disseminating research into mycotoxins and toxigenic fungi. This year’s conference—Advances in Genomics, Biodiversity, and Rapid Systems for Detection of Toxigenic Fungi and Mycotoxins— is the latest in an ongoing series of MYCO-GLOBE–sponsored meetings and workshops focused on areas of major concern to mycotoxin researchers, food safety experts, and professionals in related fields. Oral presentations and posters will provide attendees with research updates and expert perspectives on the significance of fungal genomics in understanding toxin synthesis; the role of genomics in establishing biodiversity; analytical methods ofmycotoxin detection for specific needs; and genetics and biodiversity in rapid detection of toxigenic fungi and mycotoxins.

The conference agenda also includes the first meeting of the International Society for Mycotoxicology. For more details about this meeting, please see the organization’s website: http://www.mycotox-society.org
