Future Symposia and Conferences

As a follow-up to the September 2006 MYCO-GLOBE International Conference in Monopoli, Italy, the Institute of Sciences of Food Production (ISPA-CNR) will host a workshop training course on mycotoxin detection methods from October 2 to 6, 2006. Detection Techniques for Mycotoxins and Toxigenic Fungi in the Food Chain will address traditional identification methods, as well as newer molecular and immunological techniques. The organizers have selected a group of ten students and young researchers from developing countries to participate in the workshop with full funding provided by MYCO-GLOBE SSA. In addition to these funded participants, ten paying attendees will be admitted to the course.

The preliminary program features an overview of methodologies and a series of lectures on the taxonomy of Penicillium, Aspergillus, and Fusarium fungi, as well as laboratory sessions on detecting and analyzing their toxic metabolites. Additional workshop topics include mycotoxin prevention, electronic nose detection, ELISA and rapid immunoassay methods, PCR and gene sequencing techniques, and fumonisin analysis. All sessions will be taught by distinguished experts in their field.
