A three-day scientific seminar, Research Progress and
Perspectives on Fusarium Mycotoxins in Cereals, convened
in Arcachon, France, September 11–13, 2007. The seminar
summarized the results of a four-year French research
initiative on managing Fusarium toxins in cereals, sponsored
by the RARE Project of the French Ministry of Education
and Research. Representatives from French universities,
research centers, and technical institutions, as well as
from agribusiness and related industries, discussed topics
including: prevention of Fusarium biosynthesis in the field;
advanced methods for detecting and tracing Fusarium toxins
from the field to the consumer; and assessing toxicological
risks to humans and animals. The proceedings of the
seminar will be published in early 2008. A summary of the
