Symposia and Conferences

About 100 scientists and technologists from around the world attended the September 2–5, 2007, Safety of Animal Feed and Its Contribution to the Human Food Chain workshop in Glasgow, UK. Sponsored by the International Association for Cereal Science and Technology (ICC), the Glasgow workshop explored the impact of contaminated food and feed on animals and humans, as well as related topics, including contaminant analysis, management, and regulations. The latest advances in mycotoxin research figured prominently in the wide-ranging program of lectures, roundtable
discussions, and training sessions. Among the topics addressed were mycotoxin detection, monitoring, prevention, occurrence in raw feed, and decontamination. A session on the progress of efforts by European Association of Feed Additives and Premixtures Operators (FEFANA) to provide
scientific justification for official recognition of mycotoxin inactivators among EC regulators reflected growing interest in this approach to feed safety. For further information on the workshop contact the ICC General Secretariat in Vienna at the following e-mail address: office@icc.or.at
